Howfit The 4th Guangdong (Malaysia) Commodity Exhibition in 2022 was successfully held in Kuala Lumpur and received high attention from the World Trade Center Association WTCA

After nearly three years of the impact of the new crown epidemic, the Asia-Pacific region is finally reopening and recovering economically. As the world's leading international trade and investment network, the World Trade Centers Association and its WTC members in the region are working together to boost momentum through a series of key trade events that will provide a strong impetus for regional business recovery as we approach the end of 2022. Here are a few key initiatives within the regional network.

A large trade delegation from China arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 31 on a chartered Southern Airlines flight to participate in the 2022 China (Malaysia) Commodities Expo (MCTE). This was the first time since the outbreak that China's Guangdong Province arranged a charter flight to exhibit at the event, helping manufacturers from the province to overcome cross-border travel restrictions caused by the outbreak. Two days later, Dato' Seri Dr. Imosimhan Ibrahim, Group Managing Director of WTC Kuala Lumpur and Chairman of the World Trade Centers Association Conference & Exhibition Member Advisory Committee, joined a number of government officials and business leaders from China and Malaysia to launch two exhibitions, China (Malaysia) Commodities Expo and Malaysia Retail Technology & Equipment Expo, at WTC Kuala Lumpur. The World Trade Center operates the largest exhibition facility in Malaysia.

WTCA STRIVES TO BOOST BUSINESS RECOVERY IN APAC

After nearly three years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Asia Pacific (APAC) region is finally re-opening and undergoing economic recovery. As a leading global network in international trade and investment, the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) and its Members in the region have been working together to boost the momentum with a flurry of major programs while the region is gearing up towards a strong end to 2022. Below are a few highlights from around the APAC region:

On October 31, a large group of Chinese executives arrived in Kuala Lumpur via a charter flight to participate in the 2022 Malaysia-China Trade Expo (MCTE). The China Southern Airlines charter flight was the first scheduled flight by China’s Guangdong government since the beginning of the pandemic as a way to ease the cross-border travel restrictions for Guangdong manufacturers. Two days later, Dato' Seri Dr. Hj. Irmohizam, Group Managing Director of WTC Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) and Chairman of the WTCA Conferences & Exhibitions Member Advisory Council, joined other government and business leaders from Malaysia and China to kick off both the MCTE and RESONEXexpos in WTCKL, which operates the largest exhibition facility in the country.

“Our overall aim is to support potential local events and grow together. With our vast networking, namely our involvement with the Malaysia China Trade Expo 2022 (MCTE) and RESONEX 2022, we pride in assisting local trade events in business matching and business networking,” stated Dr. Ibrahim.

On November 3, PhilConstruct, one of the largest construction shows in the APAC region, was also held at WTC Metro Manila (WTCMM) for the first time since the beginning of pandemic. As the premier and world-class exhibition facility in the Philippines, WTCMM provides the perfect infrastructure for PhilConstruct, whose displays include many large trucks and heavy machineries. According to Ms. Pamela D. Pascual, Chairman and CEO of WTCMM and WTCA Board Director, WTCMM’s exhibition facility is in high demand with new trade booked back-to-back on a regular basis. PhilConstruct, a unique and popular show, was also promoted through the WTCA network as one of the pilot events of the 2022 WTCA Market Access Program, which aimed to provide WTCA Members with increased concrete benefits for their local business community by providing opportunities and enhanced access for business members to enter into the APAC market through featured events. The WTCA team worked closely with the WTCMM team to develop and promote a value-added service package, available only to WTCA Members and their business networks.

“The interest in the Asia Pacific, specifically in the construction industry in the Philippines, as evidenced by the numerous participation of foreign exhibitor companies in Philconstruct, was outstanding. The choice of Philconstruct to piggyback in the WTCA Market Access program was an excellent choice as this collaboration all the more strengthened the power of the WTCA network,” said Ms. Pamela D. Pascual.

On November 5, the China International Import Expo (CIIE), the top Chinese trade show for imported goods and services to China, was held in Shanghai, China. Supported by WTC Shanghai and eight other WTC operations and partners in China, the WTCA launched its 3rd annual WTCA CIIE Program to provide market access for WTCA Members and their affiliated companies around the world via a hybrid approach with a physical booth at CIIE managed by WTCA staff and complimentary virtual presence for overseas participants. The 2022 WTCA CIIE Program featured 134 products and services from 39 companies across 9 overseas WTC operations.

On the other side of the vast region, the Connect India virtual expo hosted by the WTC Mumbai team has been ongoing since the beginning of August. As another featured trade show in the 2022 WTCA Market Access Program, Connect India has attracted the participation of more than 5,000 products from over 150 exhibitors. More than 500 matchmaking meetings are projected to be facilitated between sellers and buyers via the WTC Mumbai virtual expo platform through December 3.

“We are very proud that our global network is making an active contribution to business recovery in the APAC region by offering world-class trade facilities and services. As the largest region in the global WTCA family, we cover more than 90 major cities and trade hubs throughout the APAC region. The list is growing and our WTC teams are working tirelessly to serve business communities amidst all the challenges. We’ll continue to support our regional network with innovative programs for their efforts to grow trade and prosperity,” said Mr. Scott Wang, WTCA Vice President, Asia Pacific, who has been traveling in the region to support these trade activities.
